Syllabus
Course Description
This course will expose students to the overall history of music and its development antiquity to present.
Content Outline
Fall: Chapters 1-14 (incl European Classical)
Spring: Chapters 14-17 (incl Musical Theatre, Opera, Film Music, Folk & Popular)
Grading
600 pts total:
10 Chapter Quizzes (20 pts each, 200 pts total)
4 Class Participation Grades (25 pts each, 100 pts total)
3 Unit Tests (100 pts each, 300 pts total)
No comprehensive final exam
Extra Credit:
Attendance at BTW music concerts (25 pts each)
Opportunities for an extra credit on each Chapter Quiz.
Students may be allowed to use lecture notes for Quizzes and Unit Tests.
In the case of absences, students should ask classmates for lecture notes.
Supplies
Folder for returned chapter quizzes (for use with Unit Tests)
Journal or notebook for lecture & reading notes (for use with Unit Tests)
Learning Resources
Classroom Textbook (Music: Its Role and Importance in Our Lives by Fowler, Gerber and Lawrence)
Handouts, lectures, demonstrations, videos and recordings.
Grading Policy
90%-100% = A; 80%-89% = B; 70%-79% = C; 60%-69% = D; 0%-59% = F
Grading adheres to Tulsa Public Schools policy.
